Vein treatment at our Addison vein center: what you need to know before your visit?
06 April 2026
If leg symptoms have been affecting your daily life, whether it is heaviness after standing, swelling that worsens through the day, or visible veins that bother you, vein treatment options are available at the Addison Vein Center. Located at 17980 Dallas Parkway, the clinic provides evaluation and minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins, spider veins, and the underlying circulation issues that cause them.
Why should symptoms not be ignored?
Many people dismiss leg symptoms as normal consequences of aging, working on their feet, or simply being tired. The heaviness, the swelling, the aching, they become part of daily life. But these symptoms may have an identifiable cause, and that cause can frequently be addressed.
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is common. When vein valves weaken, blood flows backward and pools in the legs instead of returning efficiently to the heart. This creates pressure that leads to visible veins, swelling, and discomfort.
Left untreated, CVI is a progressive condition. The symptoms that are bothersome today can become worse over time. In some cases, prolonged venous insufficiency leads to skin changes, discoloration, and even venous ulcers.

What happens at your first appointment?
Your first visit includes:
- A consultation with the vein doctor to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and concerns
- A physical examination of your legs
- Duplex ultrasound imaging when clinically indicated
- Discussion of findings and treatment options
The duplex ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to visualize your veins and assess blood flow. It can identify which veins, if any, have faulty valves. This information guides treatment recommendations.
Plan for about 45 minutes to an hour for your initial visit. If treatment is appropriate and you wish to proceed, procedures are typically scheduled for a separate appointment after insurance verification.

Vein treatment options available in Addison, Texas
When treatment is appropriate, the Addison clinic offers minimally invasive options:
Radiofrequency ablation
RFA uses thermal energy to close malfunctioning veins. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia. Closure rates are typically high.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy treats spider veins and small varicose veins by injecting a solution that causes them to seal and fade. Multiple sessions are typically needed.
Not everyone needs treatment. Many patients evaluated can manage their symptoms with compression stockings and lifestyle changes. If that applies to you, you will be told.
Meet the vein doctor
Dr. Benjamin Kum leads the Addison clinic. Board-certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Kum brings 13 years of clinical experience to vein care. He completed his medical education at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and has held academic positions at the University of Texas Southwestern.
Dr. Kum speaks English and Korean. Translation services are available for other languages.
Insurance and cost
Most treatments for venous insufficiency are covered by insurance when medical necessity is documented. The clinic verifies coverage before scheduling any procedures.
Spider vein treatment without underlying disease is typically considered cosmetic and not covered. If your primary concern is the appearance of spider veins, expect to discuss out-of-pocket costs during your consultation.
What can patients expect during recovery?
Recovery from minimally invasive vein treatment is typically quick:
- Walking encouraged immediately
- Compression stockings are worn for one to two weeks
- Most patients return to desk work the same day or next day
- Strenuous exercise is avoided for about one week
Schedule your evaluation
If you have been wondering whether your leg symptoms might be related to your veins, an evaluation can provide answers. Understanding the cause is the first step, whether that leads to treatment or simply confirmation that your veins are not the issue.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 972-619-3735 or completing an online request form. No referral is needed.
